The office chair is an essential component of any workstation, but they’re not always that easy to figure out. When you sit at your desk, the main thing is to be able to adjust your office chair to your own requirements. Follow these guidelines to help you be as comfortable and ergonomically aligned in your chair as possible.
If you’re working at a desk the chair that you are sitting in must work well with the height of the desk. In order for you to sit comfortably at your desk, it must be raised high enough. The height has to be adjusted so that your feet are resting on the floor and your thighs are parallel to the ground. Get a footrest if your feet cannot rest on the floor.
The seat pan should be right below your knee cap height. Having a chair with a pneumatic lever means that you do not need to get up in order to adjust its height. With an older style of chair, you’ll have to stand in front of it and rotate the chair. However if your chair is this old, you really ought to convince your boss to invest in a decent ergonomic task chair.
In order to avoid compressing the tissue on the back of your thighs and behind your knees you should be sure to avoid letting your feet dangle. Additionally it can make the lower legs feel quite sore. Office chairs with rounded edges make your knees more comfortable.
You ought to be able to fit a clenched fist between the back of your knees and the front of your chair. The chair should be lowered a bit if there is not. If your back starts to hurt just tilt the chair’s back forward for relief.
The lumbar area of your lower back should be supported by the backrest. This is the principal contact area, and is a key component of supporting your lower back. You need to be able to adjust the height of your backrest, particularly if your job requires you to sit in your chair for extended periods. Your back should get the maximum amount of support. You can also move some backrests forward or backward. A deep seat pan helps to make these features even more helpful.
It is always better to sit in a chair with good back support, particularly for long periods of time. If at all possible, make an investment in the best ergonomic chair that fits within your budget. If you still find your back to be uncomfortable when sitting in the chair, you should make as many adjustments as possible till you feel comfortable.
