Jerry and Sarah have been married for three years. They wanted to have some excitement and fun before they made up their minds to have a family and so they with forethought fashioned a very active social life.
The primary issue, it needs to be underscored, is that very nearly everything they do with their family and friends is associated with drinking. For instance, all of the sporting events, happy hours, parties with friends, dinner engagements, and family get-togethers they attend are associated with drinking.
Sarah and Jerry Begin to Become Aware of Some Noticeable Alcohol Related Difficulties That are Without a Doubt Related to Their Abusive Drinking
If they were infrequent drinkers, this wouldn’t be a big issue. Because they drink quite excessively, however, they are beginning to become aware of some clearly identifiable alcohol-related problems in their lives.
For instance, just four weeks ago Jerry was apprehended by the police for a second DWI and has been overlooking responsibilities at work because of alcohol-related health issues. Moreover, Jerry’s last two or three performance appraisals at his place of employment have been less than adequate and he has started to fail to remember what he says or does the times that he drinks. Finally, Jerry has been going through sleep-related problems and his family has begun to get anxious about his drinking activities.
Not unlike Jerry’s situation, Sarah has been feeling down in the dumps about life in general and to come to grips with these feelings, she has been drinking more regularly than any time in the past four years. In addition, Sarah has been getting more than a few migraine headaches and going through intense hangovers from drinking. As a final point, Sarah has been feeling significantly less active when she gets up in the morning, she has been getting to work late at least once per week, and she has been getting some inconsiderate criticism from her coworkers, family members, relatives, and friends about her hazardous drinking.
Watching the Television and Accidently Discovering An Interesting Program About the Signs of Alcohol Addiction
One Thursday evening while watching TV, Sarah and Jerry flipped through the channels and discovered an exciting documentary about the signs of alcoholism.
This TV program was a real shock to Jerry and Sarah because some of the alcoholism signs that were emphasized seemed like they were undeniably related to numerous alcohol-related drinking problems Sarah and Jerry had been going through.
A Candid Dialogue About Drinking Activities Uncovers Alcohol Related Employment, Relationship, Financial, Health, and Legal Problems
After watching the TV program, Jerry and Sarah determined that they needed to have an honest talk about their drinking condition. They both were in agreement that most, if not all, of their social activities were related to drinking, that they were drinking excessively, and that as a couple, they were beginning to note alcohol related financial, health, legal, relationship, and employment problems for the first time since they were married.
With thoughts of the television program still fresh in her mind, Sarah asked Jerry if some of the alcohol addiction signs they have been exhibiting could mean that they are alcohol dependent or conceivably becoming dependent on alcohol. Jerry didn’t know the answer to Sarah’s inquiry and so he suggested that they make an appointment with one of the healthcare practitioners at the nearby drug and alcohol abuse treatment facility to find out more about the severity of their drinking problems.
Facing Your Drinking Problems May Lessen Your Nervousness and Give You Some Quietude
Paradoxically, although their drinking behavior hadn’t yet changed, it was plain to see that Sarah and Jerry were at the very least facing their drinking problems, they were willing to find out more about their drinking behavior, and they were interested in learning how they could substantially decrease or do away with the alcohol-related problems that had begun to worsen.
When Jerry and Sarah went to bed that evening, they decided that the next morning, Jerry would call and make an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol rehabilitation center located downtown. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to overcome the alcohol-related difficulties that had developed in their lives, they actually had the most energizing night’s sleep they could remember in the last seven weeks.
Just before he fell asleep, Jerry turned to Sarah and observed how effortless it is to lessen one’s nervousness and truly experience some tranquility by facing one’s problems with personal integrity and deciding to do something affirmative about them.
