Find Out What Causes Pimples

Pimples can be absolutely miserable to experience.  Sometimes all it takes is one to make you feel self-conscious and unhappy; most often, you will end up with several pimples at a time, making things even more difficult and unpleasant.Nothing matters as much as discovering a genuine, workable way of removing them and getting your smooth, clear skin back.

It is important to understand what causes pimples before you try and get rid of them.

What causes pimples?

First, let’s take a look at how your skin normally works.Your skin surface contains literally millions of small pores. Some of these pores can have small hairs growing out of them, breaking out onto the skin surface.Your skin’s natural oils are produced by tiny glands found deep inside these pores. These glands are known as the sebaceous glands and the oil they produce is called sebum.

One function of sebum is to act as your skins natural moisturizer.  It also helps to keep the pore clean by carrying bacteria and debris (like dirt and dead skin cells) up onto the skin’s surface where it can be removed.  This is your body’s natural way of getting rid of bad things and keeping your skin moist, supple, and healthy.

The arrival of puberty is a difficult time, with your body starting to produce a variety of different hormones and other chemicals. It will take time for your hormone levels to balance, until then they can fluctuate quite dramatically.Your skin has trouble dealing with such extreme fluctuations which provide an ideal environment for acne and pimples to flourish.

An unfortunate consequence of extra hormones in your body, is it seems to trigger the sebaceous glands to produce much more sebum than is normal or required. These hormonal changes can interfere with how effectively your pores shed and remove dead skin cells.  All of this extra sebum combined with a lot of stuck dead skin cells leads to a clogged pore where bacteria can cause this mixture to become infected and inflamed. These factors combined produce a pimple.

The natural hormonal changes occurring in your body are pretty much beyond your control, however the number of pimples you get is something you can influence

1.Keep your skin clean – A mild cleanser used morning and evening will help keep your skin clean. If your skin is irritated you are more likely to develop pimples. Therefore, choose a gentle facial cleanser and refrain from scrubbing your skin too harshly.
2.Use medication – Improving your skins ability to get rid of dead skin cells and limiting the amount of sebum produced are the main functions of any anti-acne medication.Of the freely available medications available, benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are amongst the best.
3.Keep your skin moist - The use of a very light moisturizer helps prevent your skin from drying out, which in turn helps to prevent pimples.Typically, an oil-free moisturizer will benefit your skin most.
