If You Suffer From Nightmares, Here’s Help To Get Rid Of Them

It is thought that around 1 in 5 people experience a nightmare at least once a week.

Now that’s quite a scary idea, even without having to experience the nightmare itself.

So if you’re always awakening in the dead of night shaking with fear because your pleasant dream suddenly became an nasty nightmare, is there anything you can do to reduce the number of nightmares you’re experiencing?

1. Check your medication

Some medicines have the side effect that they can cause nightmares. If you’ve just been prescribed a new medication, that should be on your suspect list. Go back to your doctor and if need be, get them to change your medicine.

2. Chill out more

Quite a lot of the time, if you have a nightmare, it’s our body’s way to say that we’re stressed out. OK, it would be nice if your body didn’t tell you this by giving you nightmares but then you probably wouldn’t get the message. Get hold of a relaxation MP3 and actually listen to it (rather than leaving it with the rest of your collection). If you’re able to identify what’s stressing you out, work on ways to move them out of your life or at least cut down their effect.

3. Cut down on the coffee

I know, everyone says to do that. You can still have your breakfast coffee to pick you up, no problem. But don’t slurp down lots of coffee or other caffeinated drinks too close to bedtime. It’s not just the usual suspects, some pain killers include caffeine, so read the label carefully.

4. Get some rest

Hmmm, that sounds like a contradiction in terms. After all, you’re having nightmares and that’s not exactly helping you get decent sleep. Make the time you go to bed a habit so your body gets used to the routine.

5. Listen to a hypnosis track

Because you’re likely stressed and your mind is busy constructing all those different nightmares in an effort to see how scared you can get, listening to a hypnosis track is a good way to get out of the vicious circle. You can get hold of download a simple hypnosis MP3 which will send your nightmares packing. It’s quick, easy and it works.
